Long time for my wife. We applied together in early Dec 2009. Mine came in a month. USPS pigeon post lost my wife's receipt notice. USCIS since keep us stuck for the last 6 months. Infopass did not help, tons of calls and emails to USCIS did not help much either. I got hold of one R. Hill Johnson send her reapplication without any fees and in the cover letter explained the ineptness of USCIS. Not sure what happened at TSC, but almost a week after that reapplication we got an email that the case (with initial SRC#) was re-approved and we should get a notice in mail soon. Time for us to pray every day that this time we actually get it.

I think this con no longer holds true for many folks on this forum, since there are many who are approaching 10 years on H1-B itself. SS has no requirement that you have GC/citizenship to reclaim your pension, just that you work 10 years.
CONS:
if you go back, you lose your SS benefit/pension. you need at least 10 work years to avail of it. the SS check would be a great pocket money when you retire and lived in your home country.
this is one of the conspiracy theory that they screw us with immigration so that we can't claim the SS benefit/pension. we are funding their retirement. so, don't let their xenophobic lazy ass enjoy your years of hardwork. fight the fight...at least up to 10 years.

If I were you, I would submit both - evaluation and letter from university.
I think this is just a "technical" issue and should be resolved once you submit the above documentation.
Really appreciate your advise on this. I am also thinking to do the same. I contacted my university but no one is responding. I requested one of my friends help to go to the university personally and get this letter and fax it to me. Hopefully I will receive it soon this week. I will keep IV members informed on the progress.

You have been quiet and did not participate for so long. Are you moving closer to your GC or to any fix? What makes you think that by continuing to do the same, all your problems will be fixed?

If this is the case, I urge you to participate regardless of anyone you feel as annoying. As mentioned above, it does make sense to participate with annoying people who share the common cause to get a fix to your problems. Remember, you are not participating for the benefit of the annoying people. It is not a favor you are doing anyone. If you are in this limbo, you are helping yourself and your family by participating and you are hurting yourself and your family by not participating.

USCIS was supposed to issue a visa number as soon as they receive case.
They have not been doing it all along. Thus, wasting visa numbers for the past 4 years.
Its seems now they have been following the rule...its not good for all of who have applied for 485.
It stinks that after all those years they are now following the rules...

Wait, if the I-485 is filed why would it take 5 years like you stated? It should take 1 or 2, explain?
You didn't read my post clearly. This happiness is only good for couple of months and it will be back to retrogression again especially for India & China as stated by alterego at above post. By that time, it will take longer time to get for GC as it is now because there will be tons of pending I-485 with only limited visa number.

IMO , the problem is not poor wording alone. Reacting to the latest memo takes time by which considerable damage(denied I-485,etc etc) could be done to people who are perceived to be on the wrong side of USCIS`s interpretation.

There are so many 485s pending and ready for approval. The composition of PDs of these 485s vary from 2001 to 2006. These 485s belongs mainly fom applicants from India and China, not many ROW. The number of visas available is far more than already pending 485s. Unless they make it to 2006, the visas will get wasted. Even if they recive new 485s with old PD, it can not be approved before sep 2007.
Therefore, now, they are forced to make all catagory current, so that all the 485s that were filed already and pending for long time get cleared. Also, If they make all catagory current, they will recvie all the 485s even with very new PD 2007. Then they can do home work, to estimate the demand in each catagory, accordingly they can retrogress the date in September for FY 2008.
Therefore it is a win-win situation for all. By doing so, USCIS has helped to meet one of the IV objective, filing 485 w/o visas number.

In-fact similar things had happened before. AC21 came effective in October 2000, right before the amnesty given in Dec,2000 (life act of 2000). Later the amnesty beneficiaries didnt had to wait that much in que because of the surplus of visas (ac21 re-capture).

I guess most doctor's prescribe chest x-ray only if the skin test come's positive , In case of people of Indian origin skin test would alway's come positive for TB cause we all have had BCG when we were kid's. BTW my docotor is charging $250 cash / Boston.
If Dr's charge extra for immunization , we can always go to our PCP for imm and that would be covered by your insu.
