One of my friends went to DMV and made a lot of noise,
They have asked him to go personally with all the documents and they are going to try out exceptions process.
Meanwhile we have AG's office and SOS office clueless about folks whose lives they are playing with.
None of them even had a clue how many number of such people will be impacted , those who are legal, work full-time, permenant jobs with US companies but don't have Green card in hand yet!

He told me very clearly that no transit visa is required for Indian Citizens with AP. He told me that they haven't issued any transit visa to a Indian Citizen in last 4 years.
I spoke with Lufthansa City office and Reservations. got same response. that's enough for me. I am not going to get transit visa.
My understanding is that whatever the real rules are, they are not looking for transit visa at the Airport, otherwise I see no reason why Washington DC would tell me no visa is needed.

2 crores is what one needs to go back to India
i have been having this discussions and i guess even a crore in either FD (fixed deposit with 8 %) would fetch 65 k rupees a month
which is more than what a Middle level manager gets in India

Why dont we focus our energies on the recapture bill, it will solve most of the problems and reduce the queue for all categories.
it is not controvertial and most politicians support.

if anyone can think of what they can do to screw us even more, play devil's advocate and list it now
This is a good question, and we should seek answers to it so we know where we are headed if things go awry.
Actually, what I am more scared of is seeing an H1B bill pass without EB provisions --- like the last time it was done in Clinton's time. There is an actual precedent for that.

E. EMPLOYMENT-BASED VISA AVAILABILITY DURING THE COMING MONTHS
All Employment Preference categories except for Third Other Workers have been made Current for July. This has been done in an effort to generate increased demand by Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) for adjustment of status cases, and to maximize number use under the annual numerical limit. However, all readers should be alert to the possibility that not all Employment preferences will remain Current for the remainder of the fiscal year. Should the rate of demand for numbers be very heavy in the coming months, it could become necessary to retrogress some cut-off dates for September, most likely for China-mainland born and India, but also possibly for Mexico and Philippines. Severe cut-off date retrogressions are likely to occur early in FY-2008.
great... this proves this is intentional and not a typo :-) :D

I remember he mentioned on his show that the government could not even issue passports timely to the citizens. Maybe he would be interested in knowing how those agencies screwed everything up for the legal immigrants. Have you thought about that? If he could mention the whole chaos on his show, I am sure a lot of people will have a better understanding about the difficult situations we are facing. That would be great.

This is the new immigration bill being debated in the senate but hasn't become law. If the bill passes both chambers of congress and gets signed by the president then it'll certainly be the law.
I don't like this provision any more than you do but I am just reporting what's in the bill. It's not fair but that's what is in the bill.
This is what my lawyer wrote to me when I asked him if the May 21, 2007 date has any significance-
"At this point it is unclear what affect any pending legislation will have. My best guess is that whatever legislation is passed, if in fact any is passed, the legislation will only become "effective" at some future date, at least several months from now."

I posted this on another thread. It also has some suggestions for increasing the popularity of Immigration Voice.
BusinessWeek has published a lot of articles recently and tried to increase awareness about the struggles of the skilled immigrant community. With the publicity that Immigration Voice has received of late, anti-immigrant forces and curious people are going to visit this site more often.
I've joined this group for over a month and have a few suggestions to make to those who are prepared to listen. I personally think that there is too much noise on the forums. Some forums should be reserved exclusively to dispense useful and reliable information about GC/Visa processing issues.
Also, there have been too many instances of in-fighting and divisiveness among members along the lines of North India/South India, Hindi/Non-Hindi, Indians/Non-Indians, IITians/Non-IITians, etc. This paints a really nasty picture to those who are curious to learn more about this organization.
I think people need to stop treating this portal as a place to hang out 24/7. I've been guilty of it as well and hope to remedy the situation. It dispels the notion
that we are hard-working immigrants. There are other social networking groups like orkut and myspace that can be used for this purpose.
With the increased scrutiny that these news articles will bring, we need to put on our best behavior and project an image of unity, strength and intelligence in order to gain the respect of others who want to learn more about this organization.
We have a difficult path ahead of us after the dust of the AOS filing has settled (who knows how long that will take?). Long-term relief is only possible through legislation and this will be very hard to achieve due to the impending presidential elections and the politically charged climate in the wake of the CIR.
One of the suggestions that I have is to release videos of individual stories of our members who have been affected by the backlog, on youtube. We should talk about our journey - landing in the US as students/fresh grads to where we are now - what kind of technical work we do - what we like about the US - funny stories about culture differences - how we assimilated into this society - our ambitions and the barriers to achieving them.
We also need to request our American co-workers/managers/friends to speak up for us and increase awareness among other Americans who are being influenced by the rabble-rousing speeches by the likes of Lou Dobbs. The American people need to see that there is popular support for us from not only the leaders of the business community (who are perceived as greedy traitors by the American middle class) but also people who work with us and have studied with us - the people whose lives we are supposedly destroying.
Thanks,
Sid

Is this some new form ? (effective 2008) or is it an old one
What happens to the *-2007 reporting ? should I specify in the same form ?
Anyone who stayed more than 183 days in 2008 here in US, must declare all their accounts in home country or any other country, if at any time, the cumulative value in those accounts exceeded $10,000. IRS extended the declaration deadline to September 23, 2009.
I came to know about this today only and I am planning to submit this as soon as possible. Please follow the following links to educate yourself.

As far as I am concerned my spouse and I are one when it comes to filing taxes as we are joint filers. In fact when it comes to properties we own everything in common. The fact that she does not work or does not have SSN but uses ITIN for tax filing purposes does not detract from the fact that she contributes to the family income (at least by moral support).
So, I don't understand all these arguments except of course you guys think it's your income and not the family income that is taxed!

US citizens will not care about the increase in h1b fees as it does not affect them.......no amount of lobbying will help as the senate has passed the same bill earlier and will have no reason not to pass it again in sept.....moreover both the house and senate are not voting instead its a unanimous vote......The $2000 increase is here to stay.....Lets move on.
