IV reaching out to new members is taboo?
Why are you reaching out to lawmakers....because you want them to make favorable laws benefiting immigrants....will they do it without your reaching out...maybe...but most likely not
so reaching out makes a difference isn't it
but you want to do it without reaching out to them. Think about it...ya it might happen...but won't you get better results and more resources if you reach out.
I didn't blame anyone for anything...nor did i question anyone's efforts or intentions...i was simply seeking basic information about the organization and how it is run....i am guessing here ...but i think this is the first question on people's minds when they decide to contribute or not...a good PR campaign to promote IV among existing 1000's of members on this site won't be a bad thing
I am well versed in technology and i have offered my help in this area
Wrong...no one is helping IV...its other way around. Now tell me who needs to contact who.
We are reaching to law makers as we want a favor from them. But IV is - I + We.....I am here because I want help myself and you are here because you want to help yourself.
We are not doing any favor to IV or any one else. We are here because we are suffering and need a way out.

Guys , when i called up today for I-485 petitions for USCIS i was little bit worried when first officer informed me of the process and she explained why we are not receiving receipt numbers.
But after 20 min long discussion with her i was little worried and thus want to share this info for your comments.
As per her" USCIS will wait for all 485 petitions , and assign them visa numbers as per availability , she told me that they exhausted all visa numbers on june 26 2007. and they are going to receive all unused numbers on aug 17 and will assign accordingly for all cases who are considered for adjudication.
If they run out of visa numbers again during this process they will return applications saying apply after October 2007.
After going though i couldnt believe myself and i called them back to enquire about the same. another officer told me the same that this is the update they have. If this is the case is USCIS really accepting or playing with us ? i dont understand at all. Out of curiocity again i asked my friend and he reported same info. I dont want to rise panic flag with this info but just share and request your comments. please.
FYI: My case is with NSC filed on July 2 ,
Just called TSC and spoke to IO
The lady was nice and after getting my info including Country of Birth, placed me on hold for 5 minutes and she came back and told me that no new info is available in regards to my 485 ... and NO RECEIPT will be issued and ALL APPLICATIONS are on HOLD until after August 17th, when visa numbers from other ROW will be available to India. I told her my application was filed based on June VB and she told me it does not matter if it is for JUNE or JULY???
Seems like the TSC is now issuing receipts based on availability of visa number? But NSC is still issuing receipt after June 26th RD???

What happens worldwide is small and easy prey is always hit on. Thats what ICE is doing. Looks like they have no illegal immigrants or criminals immigrants to go after and hence to "show off" something they are doing something about it. As many said, companies are the ones engaging in fraudulent business practices or forcing employees to do so, but the ones who are getting punished are the hard working simple employees. This is inefficient and other inept enforcement. You cant do anything to the big fish, so lets catch the small one. Something is better than nothing.

In Chicago, this freakin shit Emabassy shows the Earliest Available appointment date is End of may and I am travelling on May 27th. So no way that I can get this so called Shit.
What I am surprised at is , we are not even going through the German immigration. its just the Airport and Airlines staff at the gate checking our PP and boarding pass. Right?
Its just a stop over for refueling or whatever it is and we are at the same gate.
Man, What the heck , I don't understand. and I don't know what to do.
I don't know why they do this to people like us?
Try sending them an E-mail explaining your situation and requesting an emergency appointment. (it is difficult to get them over the phone)
I applied for visa today. The lady mentioned that I would be getting it in 3 days.

Those numberusa people donot want any reform at all..The only reform they want is abolishing all immigration...Donot even think of getting into the trap of talking to those people...
Let the CIR or SKIL bill come up as a consolidated bill in late winter as the other lawmakers were discussing...We have to keep making efforts so that the bill would come up...Remember senate was never the problem...Now with democratic house it might become easier to push the CIR /SKIL through...
Talking to the anti immigration folks is a counter productive idea....
First of all, with a democratic house, it is not AT ALL easy to get the CIR passed. Don't believe anyone who says that. That has been contradicted in every leading newspaper editorial. The new Dems are conservative. Plus they are afraid of the backlash in 2008. And a big sign of that is: Pelosi is silent on CIR. It is not coming up soon. If it were that easy, it would be the first thing they would have brought up. In fact, Pelosi even met the President immediately after it became clear that she was going to the majority leader. But it still did not come up. Isn't it obvious?
Talking to anti-immigration is counter-productive? Well then why did we call Sessions?
Believe me, I will be most relieved if CIR solves our problems and if it goes successfully when it is taken up --- most probably by 07/07. After all I need is a GC that is all. I don't care for ideology at this point.

There is no need for this. Actually, universities in Michigan has already sent out emails to their students notifying this change.

I think the root cause of EB3 India is not that there are too many EB3 India applicants but majority of the ROW EB applicants apply in EB3 and not EB1/2 even if they qualify (this might change now as EB3 ROW is suffering huge backlog).

If I remember correctly, It was announced ahead of time that PERM would go into effect (I think it was March 29 2005) and all old style labor filings would stop from that date. But, in this case, they are using a date that has already passed, without giving the people who are in queue for 4-5 years due to the BEC /labor dept ineffiencies, as a cut off date. Now, those of us who have invested 5 years of time hoping to see the GC someday soon, have to wait until Oct 2008 . It gets complicated because of H1B extension issues that wont be available unless you are on the train that left on May 21st.
So if I understadn you correctly, you are saying
1. People who are in 4-5th year will get stuck 1 yr or more becuase of the implementation of this system. But you can't you extend your H1 ???
2. people come under point-based system don't can't do the above. Is that what you are saying ??????????
Please clarify .....................

If you go through the H1b case data for the year 2005, (which can be downloaded from flcdatacenter), and look for the job code 030 (computer jobs),
and sort their salaries, you will see programmer analysts and software engineers being paid 25000 anually, Yes they are in california and other costly cities.
There are many programmer/sw engg jobs well belo 45000 annually.
This is what drives NumbersUSA and Programmers Guild to cry out "H1B fraud" and "Cheap Labor Imported". And they have facts to support them. This issue is serious and increasing H1b numbers without Reforming H1b for fraud and cheap labor is indeed a disaster for not only american citizens, but also to future aspirants of GC and Citizenship. In fact we should support NumbersUSA and ProgrammersGuild if they are proposing this reform.
You seem to be spending too much time on NumbersUSA website. Maybe you are starting to even like them :D

Folks,
It is sad to see people complaining and not helping in getting IV to become larger and bigger. NJ must have one of the largest population of people who are in our situation and yet, only handful have joined to State Chapter. Please spend next one month getting as many people as we can to join IV and write and meet lawmakers.. Please put in efforts to get more members and money... After all, it is all about Benjamins..

Its clear there are many who are frustrated. I feel there is a better way to convince people to contribute. I have been registered with this site for several years now. I hardly know much about this organization. sure there is a nice little bio on here of core members but what role do they play on a daily basis? is this organization a democracy where people get elected to posts every year or do the people running it pledge to run it forever? why is information hidden from non-donors? Where can i find site admins...do i have to search forum posts or is there some place that lists them? what are the goals for advocacy? who decides? is there a vote?
i can go on with a list of serious concerns about IV
once people are convinced of a well run organization and see where exactly their money or time will be spent then i am sure there will be many more contributions made.
First you will have to understand IV is run by volunteers who has a full time job and family to take care. More most of the IV core people are alreay GC holders and no one is getting paid for their time and effort. The only goal is to fix the back log.
We can not make everything public as there are so many vested interest and will harm our efforts. We do not have enough support, resource to declare a open war like undocumented people. So we will have to keep thing under wraps. If you want to tak part, there are various groups working on various fix. Join one those group, spend time and you will understand and appreciate what the volunteers are doing.
Thanks,

and they (Fragomen) confirmed May 21st 2007 is not going to be the cutoff date, just because a bill is introduced on that day. Effective date will be decided later by USCIS at a later date due to implementation issues even after the president signs this bill into law.

I believe in lawsuits. This country does also.. Lets face it nothing actually gets done unless there is fear of law.
I believe in equal rights (excluding voting rights, as we are legals here). We came from the front door. Stood in line at visa embassies, paid visa fees etc etc. We did not jump the border for those folks who don't understand the difference between legal Vs Illegals. We pay federal, state and social security taxes just as US citizens do..So while giving licenses, there should be nothing on it which discriminates us from the rest. They dont discriminate when they take our taxes. Blood and Money have the same color.
Lets talk in the same language as these ppl who have no respect for legal high skilled immigrants.
Lets roll!
Actually this should be v much be a class action lawsuit!

I am sure you heard it right. But I am equally sure she has got it wrong.
It looks like she is not aware of the difference between a receipt number and a visa number.
EVEN AFTER THREE TIME I GOT THE SAME ANSWER AND SOMEOTHER PERSON POSTED HE GOT SIMILAR RESPONSE TOO, MAY BE ONE OF REP IS INCORRECT NOT ALL RIGHT?

Obama takes immigration reform off agenda....Bummer :o
Obama takes immigration reform off agenda - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100429/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_immigration_politics_3)
Immigration reform has become the first of President Barack Obama's major priorities dropped from the agenda of an election-year Congress facing voter disillusionment. Sounding the death knell was Obama himself.
The president noted that lawmakers may lack the "appetite" to take on immigration while many of them are up for re-election and while another big legislative issue climate change is already on their plate.
"I don't want us to do something just for the sake of politics that doesn't solve the problem," Obama told reporters Wednesday night aboard Air Force One.
Immigration reform was an issue Obama promised Latino groups that he would take up in his first year in office. But several hard realities a tanked economy, a crowded agenda, election-year politics and lack of political will led to so much foot-dragging in Congress that, ultimately, Obama decided to set the issue aside.
With that move, the president calculated that an immigration bill would not prove as costly to his party two years from now, when he seeks re-election, than it would today, even though some immigration reformers warned that a delay could so discourage Democratic-leaning Latino voters that they would stay home from the polls in November.
Some Democrats thought pushing a bill through now might help their party. If it failed, they could blame Republican resistance, though in reality many Democrats didn't want to deal with an immigration bill this year either.
Perhaps seeing the handwriting on the wall, top Senate Democrats released a legislative framework for immigration reforms anyway. The draft proposal, obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday, called for, among other things, meeting border security benchmarks before anyone in the country illegally can become a legal permanent U.S. resident.
By Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi offered little hope that the issue was still alive on Capitol Hill.
"If there is going to be any movement in this regard, it will require presidential leadership, as well as an appetite, is that the word? ... as well as a willingness to move forward in the Congress," she said.
House Republican leader John Boehner was more blunt. "There is not a chance that immigration is going to move through the Congress," he said Tuesday.
Rep. Luis Gutierrez, the Democrats' leading advocate for immigration reform, has said he voted for health care reform on the understanding that Obama and congressional Democrats would move a major immigration bill.
Even though he would like to see Latinos turn out to vote for Democrats in 2010, Gutierrez said "many will probably decide to stay home." However, he added, a strict, new immigration law in Arizona may change that dynamic. The law requires law enforcement officers to question anyone they suspect is in the country illegally.
"On one hand you are not going to vote because you don't believe people you voted for are doing a good enough job," Gutierrez said. "Then you say, 'I got to vote, because the enemy is so mean and vindictive, I got to get out there.'"
I just read this too..I am not able to digest this.

H4 can get DL. My spouse got DL ( we had to take a letter from Social Security Office , stating 'Not Eligible for SSN' ).
Good to know that.
Maybe we were unlucky, the SSN letter didn't help us some 5-6 years back. DMV gave us a hard time instead.
