In which case, how about they tell us? I've been holding off on buying '06 since December because '07 is supposedly imminent. If they told us '07 definitely would not be out until the end of this year, I'd just get my credit card out and purchase '06, but I don't want to do that if '07 will be out in early May. I'm not asking for a detailed feature breakdown, just a quick comment on whether it's going to be out soon or at the same time as Leopard.
Sometimes Apple's stupid secrecy gets to me big time :(
Yeah, in this case I agree. Normally I don't get too worked up about product release-date weirdness--most of the time it's part of the fun--but they put a date on this one for consecutive years and then left us hanging. It seems pretty likely that the rumors of a name change and a Leopard-timed release will prove accurate, and that'll be cool in October or whenever...but that doesn't make the uncertainty of the first quarter of this year any less annoying.

Worst...streaming....ever....
And this is the company that supposedly will be handed the crown for online movie rentals and downloads?
This happens year after year. The day of the keynote (and sometimes days/weeks afterward) always sees enormous demand for the stream but they never allocate enough to handle it. You think that they would have figured it out by now, and they better pretty damn quick if they expect to stream movie rentals - reliably that is.
I have a 3 megabit DSL connection and this is what I'm getting. They get an F. Pathetic.

And the Dell would still end up being around 1000$ cheaper.
what even a bigger kick in the head is they have the new E3 xeon's in their new T1600 mini workstation as an option.

One does have to remember though, styling is subjective. You may find the Volt to be ugly, but I like it's design. Sure it isn't the best design out there, but considering the Prius, Insight, and other dedicated hybrid/electric models that I can think of( where manufactures design it to be aerodynamic and not stylish per se), I think it is one the best looking of the bunch( easily beats Prius, Insight, etc, but Tesla and Fisker make decent looking vehicles as well).
ironically the most aerodynamic production vehicle currently is the european spec Mercedes E220 blue efficiency diesel.
Gonna be interesting later this year with mercedes (E class) and citroen (3008) launching their diesel hybrids in europe. Mercedes already anounnced that they will be putting them as fast as they can across their line up the next 2 years. It could very well be that when the Volt launches around here that a C class diesel hybrid is already around the corner and thus ruin their good press.
regarding the Volt design i think the front and back view look great but where they really dropped the ball is the side view including the doors/side windows.
edit: can actually anybody come up with a more ugly car than the juke without the Aztek or a SangYong ? honestly i'm hard pressed

My little rant...
I don't understand what all the complaining is about. The 360 Elite is not ment to be purchased by everyone. They are still offering the Core and Premium systems and they will continue to offer the 20 gig and 120 gig hard drives. If you don't want HDMI, then just get one of the other two systems. If you don't want a black 360, get one of the others. If you want wireless, buy the adapter. Its the same system just with different options. To me, its like buying a car. If you want a bigger engine, you pay a bit more. You want leather seats?? That will cost you extra. At least Microsoft is offering you a choice, unlike Sony who is forcing a $600 console down your throat.
The way I look at it, if you want to buy a 360 just to play games, you can get a Core system for $300. Heck you can even get them used for around $250 now. If you want to add media content (download movies, music, whatever), you get the Premium. And if you are a tech nut, get the Elite. Its up to the buyer to decide what they are going to use the system for and there is no sense in charging someone for something they won't use. And sure, Microsoft is making money off this model. Really, how many people that own a 360 own the HD-DVD drive, the wireless adapter, the XBox camera, etc?? Again, at least Microsoft is giving you a choice.
Almost everyone is ignoring what the 360's primary use is: TO PLAY GAMES! Sure the media content and voice/video chat is there as well but thats not its main purpose. Its like someone buying a Mac and then bitching about no games being available to play on it. You don't buy a Mac only to play games, you don't buy a 360 only to watch videos.
...End of rant
With all that said, I'm still going to buy the Elite version if my stolen 360 doesn't show up by April 29th. My 20 gig HD was nearly overflowing and I found myself having to delete stuff on a regular basis. The HDMI will be nice to have and the black color will match most of the stuff in my entertainment center. Again, this is how I will use it. It may not be everyone's opinion so stop with the "Oooo Microsoft is teh sux and only wants my $$"

This is excellent news! I was so disappointed when I read the reports earlier. I like Justin Long a lot and I feel he fits the 'Mac' part very well. I can't wait to see the new holiday ads he was talking about. :D

But there is a statutory transgression. It is now illegal in France to go about in public dressed like chattel.
France is attempting to preserve their culture against corrupting outside influence. I don't have any problem with that.
would you have problems if they banned Islam from France?

Apple showed with the Intel transition that keeping the same form factor gives consumers an intuitive confidence in new products.
Sounds like the iPhone will mirror this by trading off the popularity of the nano form factor.

This finding just goes to prove that there are people with way too much time on their hand.
Really now, the person using the Nike+iPod has to be within 60 feet from the person who's doing the tracking? At that range, the person doing the tracking is better off following the Nike+iPod user home!

3mbit/sec is still pretty slow for this. That's only 375K bytes/sec. A 600MB media file (the size of a CD, and apx. the size of an H.264-compressed full-length SD video) would take about a half-hour to transfer.
Now, with my 30mbit/sec Internet service, I expect to be able to transfer, from the biggest sites anyway, at maybe 20mbit/sec. At certain times of the day, I get the full 30. At 20, though, that 30 minutes shrinks to 4 minutes.
In my post I was referring to megabytes not megabits. I get a solid 50megabits down and 10megabits up. I think this should be sufficient to get the system up and running with a possible upgrade in the future.
Having said that, I am usually working with files less than your 600MB benchmark because they are all webpage elements.
Sorry for the confusion, thank you all for your advice. I've been carefully reading each post and appreciate your continued support.

...for everyone complaining about the lack of a usb plug - the usb is in the headphones plug - seems to me someone will come out with some sort of headphones with a usb plug in them soon enough. anyway, I always thought the old shuffle was useless as a flash drive - it was too big to fit in a lot of usb ports - and even this new design is physically huge compared to some of the latest sticks (you can put a sony microvault tiny anywhere - ive actually stuck it in my shoe and forgotten about it) and too small in the memory department - has anyone seen how cheap 2gb drives are these days? Finally, I can't imagine it comparing in the file transfer speed department.

Not even sure how much benefit the second core confers in an application like office anyway. What it means is that the top of the range mac now available runs the application as well as the same place/priced machine from 1 year ago, make of that what you will.
Here's my reckoning.
It's running an application that was never built to run on X86 processors at comparable speeds to the processors on which the program was built to run.
That's damned impressive if you ask me. Even before when it was slow it was still amazing to me, especially after the deathly slow experience that was Virtual PC on the Mac. Sure, it was emulating an entire OS but the decrease in speed was massive - a 2GHz G5 became a 733MHz PIII under Virtual PC...

Still looks more promising to me than move and at least you only have to buy one kinnect if there are two of you playing as opposed to two sets for either move or wii so the cost becomes negligible between all of them.
Wasn't there a 3 person dance thing in one of those demos? In a previous demo I saw, I think a family was playing one of those twister like games where they make a "group shadow" shape?

Exactly. Its called being a kid. Luckily, you'll age out of it. Until then, suck it up and get used to it.
Exactly, you're a child, a minor, a non-voter, you have no adult rights and the reason you're still at school is to learn...
If your IT admin who understand the network, administer the network and have to fix all the problems caused by students that don't know much at all, then they are well within their right (as adults, teachers, professionals) to do what they ned to to protect the investment in their infrastructure.
Consider it a learning experience, these people know more than you.
I'm sure if you ask nicely they'll give it back.

Because it's really easy to connect an iPod to your TV and watch your videos that way. There are also several peripherals (http://podophile.com/2006/07/26/memorex-announces-iflip-video-player-for-ipod/) coming out soon that add a larger wide screen to the iPod. And don't forget watching videos on your MacBook or MacBook pro.
Flowbee, that is my thought exactly...I think the next gen of ipod will come with an Ipod-->RCA cable; it makes the most sense and puts apple in a good position to be an on-demand competitor. Don't get cable tv? No problem, dump the show on your ipod via itunes, slap the cables in your tv and go.
Full screen video ipods are nice, but give people the chance to use their ipod like they'd use a dvd player (but be able to bring it with them to anyone's tv) and that's where the $$$ is in an itunes movie store.

Bah.... I'll agree that trashing a perfectly good iPad is a bit painful to watch, but at the same time -- spare me the environmental guilt trip over it. Blendtek's people paid the same price for theirs that anyone else had to pay to obtain one. Whether the iPad in question was destined for a blender, or for someone's book reading or video watching enjoyment for the next few years is irrelevant. The fact is, its *purchase* is what helped some people stay employed, from the factory workers doing its assembly to the guy paid to box the unit up, to the truck driver paid to deliver it.
If its destruction helped Blendtek sell some more blenders (or even create some additional brand awareness at a budget price), it wasn't a "waste" to blend the thing at all, from their standpoint. It was $500 well spent!
I'm not worried about having to "explain this to someone who has nothing", because such an individual wouldn't really grasp why ANYONE would spend $500 or more on such an unnecessary luxury item as an iPad. You could get a book from a local library for FREE and read it! You could rent a movie for as little as a dollar and watch it on someone's TV/DVD player! You could get on the Internet for free from that same library that loans you the books!
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)
This pisses me off. It's a horrible example of decadence and wastefulness. Thing of all the energy and effort that went into making this device. From the mining of the metals to the labour to shipping it across the ocean. The truck that drove it to its final destination. If you've ever given any care to the environment, this should make you mad. Imagine explaining this to someone who has nothing. It went through a long journey. Did nothing. Now it's landfill. Sickening.
