So that's it? Nobody else from MacRumors is planning to be there? :confused:When I read your thread title I was thinking how I botched it last year ('cause I got free passes and did NOT go) and how I'd like to go this year if only I could get in for free. :p
So I guess I'll try to go this year... :D Thanks for posting that link, Flowbee.
:edit: Can the same priority code be used multiple times? Wanna register the bf, too.
:edit again: Same priority code can be reused. :p

I work for a multi-billion-dollar, multi-national corporation that employs tens of thousands and has tens of thousands of computers, and the IT department recently sent out a memo that they are beginning the transition from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, to be finished sometime in 2008 (my desktop is scheduled to be upgraded to XP sometime in 2008). They spent 5 years of testing and tweaking their systems for Windows XP; it'll probably be at least 2012 before they upgrade to Vista.
I work for the same type of company and they moved to XP a year and a half ago. The IT group had to do all sorts of junk to lock it down and test it (it runs rock solid) but they still got it out. Doubt they'll move to Vista for a while if at all (I wonder if they'll just skip it and go to the next version).

This.
It would make more sense (to me).
And in my opinion, in the right spirits.

I want a new enclosure AND merom. Somehow fit a DL superdrive in there.
i'd like to see some new enclosures, too. a DL superdrive might be pushing it...
i'm sure there's more to it than a revised spotlight, improved file sync'ing and virtual desktops. this is apple we're talking about. let's get realistic about our expectations while remembering this is a developer's conference and not a consumer product showcase.

I am wishing for help and advice deciding what type of hardware to purchase for a 30TB server. It must meet the following requirements:
30TB RAID (Redundancy important for backup purposes)
One thing you should consider is that using a RAID array is not a backup strategy. A RAID array will help guard against a failed hard drive though at the expense of increased overall risk.
Individual hard drives have a probability of failure that is expressed as a "Mean Time Before Failure" (MTBF). Typically the MTBF for a hard drive is in the thousands of hours (eg MTBF = 500000 operation hours). With a single volume stored on one hard disk then the volume is dependent on a single hard drive so the MTBF for that volume is equal to the MTBF for the hard disk. With a volume stored on a RAID array the volume is dependent on some number of hard drives. With every additional drive in the RAID array the probability of a hard drive failure in the array increases.
With the right RAID levels you can guard against these hard drive failures and provide recoverability of the data. But being able to recover the data by rebuilding an array is not a backup strategy. RAID will also provide much faster average data rates than the bare storage media will provide. (This was the original motivation for developing RAID approaches.)
If you have 30TB of data that you care about then you might want to consider a backup strategy that will protect against:

Do people really want a white iPhone that badly? Honestly I think the original black one is more attractive.
Thank god we all don't have to like the same thing, or think the same thing is "attractive". I find black hideous, quite honestly. Unfortunately, my fanboy-ism drove me to purchasing the iPhone 4, even though I absolutely hated the color. I can rearrange two words in your post, "Do people really want a black iPhone that badly? Honestly I think the original white is more attractive". Do you agree with my statement? No, well good, you don't have to.

There has been much talk about this "True" Video iPod. Isn't there already a Video iPod? What makes it True vs. Fake. I know there have been rumors and Photoshop mockups on what others think should be the True Video iPod and they show patents that Apple file. But I am not sure I want to replace the Scrool Wheel with a touch screen, I do like having tactile feedback on where my hand is, as well you can really smuge up the screen you are looking at, and it is easy to loose that little stylist. While I am waiting for a Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro and I may get an iPod for me at the same time. I am not sure what we would be really missing with the true video iPod except for shorter battery life and a smugged screen.

We should all play nice.
Exactly my sentiment! Remember, even those with 2006 mac pros are feeling the pressure of being driven into obsolesence, but for what its worth they are still capable of many things.. Both PowerPC and Intel have their advantages.. None is better than the other..
When a computer fails to do what you tell it to do, then it becomes worthless and useless... but so long as it can do what you ask and throw at it, it will NEVER be obsolete.. Apple may mark obsolete the G4 and G5, but for many things they are great machines..
Sometimes the latest and greatest isn't what we expect out of a machine just to do emailing, watching a video here and there.. yes, my PB G4 handles hulu and stagevu quite well..

Geez I love Apple too but I would actually care what the phone looks like and what it does. As far as you're concerned they could slap an Apple logo on a Nokia Engage and you would snatch that sucker right up. *L*
I don't know if you have noticed, but MacRumors is a forum for Apple products. Apple just doesn't make abominations like Nokia...so yeah, if Apple makes it I will buy it given the above mentioned assumptions.

That would be cool. What would make it cooler is intead of having individual keys, have it be one giant touchscreen like a Ninitendo DS or (even better) like they have on Star Trek.
I don't think that could ever happen, not with today's technology.
To find out why, go to your microwave and see how quickly you can "type" into its keypad. Or, next time you renew your vehicle license plate registration, see how well you can type your address on the kiosk touch screen (assuming a kiosk like ours in Ontario).

You can make an avchd edit and then when you have a picture lock, go back to the original, transcode automatically the footage you need, do your color correction and effects with the better files and export a pro res file or whatever you need.
The only benefit to transcoding prior to effects/grading would be to aid system performance. It will not result in better image quality.

the main reason would be that neither palestinians nor israelis want a secular statePah! Call that a problem? They'll come round. Eventually
Anyway, Palestine simply isn't viable as two states. The Palestinians don't even have contiguous territories.

I was skeptical of the 78 other "True iPod by [INSERT DATE HERE]" posts, but this one seems to have legs. So much so that it inspired my first post.

Cool! The 750 GB HDD option on the iMac is pretty sweet. For a AIO like the iMac, it's nice to see Apple equipping it with options like this (and the 3 GB of RAM) which will extend its longevity.
Also, nice to see the Xserve is finally available for ordering, I know our lab guys have wanted to pick one up for the longest time.

The white screen against the white boarder seals the deal on the ugly as sin call. It's so nasty.
