A 114 MB Excel document? Did you consider using a database instead of Excel?

So I got the GTX 480 and was messing around with getting it running without any luck. I'll have to spend some more time with it and getting windows installed on the 980x machine. I tried swapping it with a gt 260 but it didn't want to run, it was getting errors.

you have to run the gpu3 client to get it to work. it has to get a core15 unit. gpu2 uses core11 (you can actually get core11 in gpu3, but they only work on 200 series gpus)

i can help you with this if you need it. are you running just the 480, or the 480 with another card?

@HiVolt I worry that the growth that Apple is seeing will affect their ability to be innovative. So for though they have been keeping on track. I'm curious to see how the new year rolls out for them.

I took this to mean traffic as in network traffic. iOS devices, and all new smartphones, utilize a lot of network traffic. It wouldn't surprise me if they were looking at more robust ways of utilizing traffic, compression, etc. I'm not sure how they would collect traffic data. I suppose if they see a cell signal sitting in the same place for 20 minutes, it would reflect a traffic jam. But then again, they could have parallel parked and went to go grab a Starbucks.

The new Xserver is whole lotta machine for the money. I don't see Dell's feature set coming anywhere near the Xserver.

Dell has the advantage of a much more complete server lineup. Apple only offers a 1U configuration with a single operating system and very limited options. Good for Mac users who want a server, bad for enterprise sales.

That would be a great move to steal the Zune thunder and make people focus on the "new" iPod. That would seem ot be the best idea I have read here, but alas is it even true that there is this "new" hardware...

"Awesome" indeed. Incase Apple doesn't put anything up soon enough, this is what I've gleaning from Twitter. (No vouching for accuracy.)

Available June, $299 from App Store. Uncertainty as to whether other apps in suite are being sold separately or if they've gone the way of the Dodo.

Rebuilt from scratch. 64-bit, OpenCL, Grand Dispatch, Core Animation, Cocoa. Background rendering. Uses all CPUs.

Built for Snow Leopard. Scales to hardware. New, darker interface.

    No transcoding.

Colour-managed. Resolution independence to 4K. Floating point linear.

Does lots of stuff on ingest. Image stabilisation, rolling shutter correction, audio NR, auto colour balance. Auto-detects people and shot type (long, med, CU). Non-destructively.

Big emphasis on metadata and keyword tagging.

Magnetic Timeline not sure exactly what this is from descriptions, but seems to be a new way to move stuff around on timeline. Compound Clips sounds like intelligent nesting. Inline Precision Editor for roll, slip, ripple, allows you to see outside of cut easily. Auditioning allows you to collect all your options for assembly and choose preferred later. Timeline Index.

Browser and viewer may have combined. Timeline tracks appear and disappear as needed. Can use keyboard for all functions.

One-click colour matching between clips. Retime by dragging. PluralEyes-like waveform-based autosync. Sample-accurate audio editing. Audio waveforms change in realtime.

    Lots of questions remain...

I'll match that with Who Killed The Electric Car (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Killed_the_Electric_Car%3F), and why. ;)

Where would we be today, if the lawmakers had not relented on the Clean Air Standards at that time, and the EV1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1) had continued to develop?

I've worked for a struggling electric car company in the late 2000's, and that was in Europe where fuel prices are really high. I don't think there was any business to be made selling EVs in the 90's in the US. Can you really hold a company accountable for backing out of a money-losing venture? Nobody else was doing it, and even now, with batteries that can hold about 4 times as much energy per kg as the first EV1's batteries, it's not exactly straightforward for GM or Nissan to make a business case for these vehicles. I'll happily blame the oil companies, the government, and the buying public for killing off EVs, but I don't blame any of the car companies. Like I said, you can't just mandate that a certain type of vehicle be made, you have to include incentives to make people actually want to buy these vehicles. I'm knee deep in the technology, and I'm a huge proponent of it, but I don't have any delusions about it being a perfect technology that's only being held back by conspiracies. Based on the current cost of fuel, EVs just aren't attractive enough. This was much more so when GM and Toyota discontinued their EVs in the 90's.

I think Leopard is farther away than many speculate. If Apple really wanted to release it right in January, you would think they would want a bigger hoopla to build the hype, which would have to happen almost immediately. Even then, you would think as neared completion we probably would have gotten a rumor or leak concerning the supposed top secret features by now. While I have nothing but gut feeling to go on, I think it'll be *really* previewed at MacWorld with a release, maybe March or April, possibly into May.

And that would make more sense. Let Vista's dust settle, let the bitching commence, maybe even a couple highly publicized virus or spyware incidents, then swoop in with Leopard, showing that even after MS had 5 years of development to rip off OSX, Apple is still ahead of them. That would give time for hype, and give Apple the press coverage. Not only is it likely, it makes sense.[/QUOTE]

i cannot agree with you more.

plus, apple will benefit from all the 'new os' money that ms will surely pour into its launch and also gain:

-knowledge from which vista features are selling most.
-get all existing mac users even more antsy for a new os.
-let the dust settle / not get lost in the hype around vista.
-vista will seem older and leopard newer, when leopard launches later.
-many of vista's features will be shown to already exist in current osX.

its also interesting that the spring is traditionally a quieter sales period for electronics. by launching leopard in the spring, they can continue to do what apple is so good at doing... choreographing launches spread out around the year. thus keeping up the brand hype and strong sales year-round.

so look to macworld for other great news...

    and as for leopard...

my money is on leopard launching not LESS than 2 months after vista. ;)

Oh yeah!?!?! Very honor-bound I'm sure! For a country that is number 1 in the world for software piracy and other forms of theft of intellectual property they have a very strange way of showing it.

On the other hand, Apple knew when they decided to manufacture their products in China, what they were bargaining for!

As Joker says, "They're only as good as the world allows them to be." Why should Apple "know" it will happen in China, and not anywhere else in the world?

I said PART, as on it's not all because of Apple. Never said the pubs were the victims here, they also are to blame as well.

They (publishers) are "all" the blame. Apple's take has NOTHING to do with the over-pricing. This is all new to the publishers and they're trying to do many things with electronic distribution.... find the value, re-coop their investments (this is all new to them and they need to have a different production process for digital) and they need to find value for their advertisers to make money.

It did not go unnoticed to me that Apple is suing one cell phone related company and Nokia is suing SEVEN!
    Kodak is suing FIVE!
And FOUR companies are suing Apple and HTC hasn't even countersued Apple! RIM is suing TWO!

What do the most suing companies have in common?

    DECLINING.

    http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2010/03/03/technology/bits-suepatent2/bits-suepatent2-blogSpan.jpg

If I'm not mistaken, Apple took a dip before Steve Jobs came back and turned them into the successful company they are today.

How is this any different than some of these other companies taking a dip when someone comes out with a competitive device?

Suddenly because Nokia is transitioning into the smart phone market all the fanboys consider them to be a company on the verge of bankruptcy, even though they dominate the market in most countries.

Politico Article- Helen Thomas- Jews 'own the White House.' (http://www.politico.com/blogs/onmedia/0311/Helen_Thomas_to_Playboy_Jews_own_the_White_House.html) Taken from the April 2011 interview from Playboy.

Helen Thomas is not sorry, nor were the comments that ended her career accidental.

I knew exactly what I was doing I was going for broke, she told Playboy in the magazines April interview. I had reached the point of no return. You finally get fed up I finally wanted to speak the truth.
Guess this is just more evidence that vindicates her 'retirement' from the WH press corps.

But her most controversial comments echoed ones shes made before about the influence of Jews in American life, which have contributed to her name being stripped from journalism awards.

"[The Jews are] using their power, and they have power in every direction, she told Playboy. Power over the White House, power over Congress Everybody is in the pocket of the Israeli lobbies, which are funded by wealthy supporters, including those from Hollywood. Same thing with the financial markets. There's total control It isn't the 2 percent. It's real power when you own the White House, when you own these other places in terms of your political persuasion. Of course they have power. [To the interviewer] You don't deny that. You're Jewish, aren't you?"

If you click the link you can read her views on remembering the Holocaust as well.

Guess this is just more evidence that vindicates her 'retirement'.

Steve goes by Costanza's theory: "Remember, it's not a lie if you believe it."

    Kind of like Nixon/Frost..

David Frost: Are you really saying the President can do something illegal?
Richard Nixon: I'm saying that when the President does it, it's *not* illegal!

Am I missing something or is this pretty useless for DirecTV customers? Don't get me wrong, I am sure this app is awesome. But I don't see how I would change channels via my iPhone since everything is through a box. Is there a workaround? I'd like the ability to use this, but without channel swapping abilities I'm afraid it's useless for satellite and cable box customers.

Well, yes, I guess it would have to be since the eyetv hardware (which is required for this app btw) can only hook up a coaxial cable to a mac, and not a cable box to a mac. But they have their own interface for channel guides and DVR-ing and whatnot, so I don't really miss it myself. The only thing I really would miss might be channels on demand (we have comcast, not sure what directv calls them!) but I just use hulu for that type of content.

But yeah, just so you know (in case you didn't!) this isn't an app that can go with any setup or cable box..from what i can tell, it's just for use with their hardware, which doesn't support cable boxes. :o

If I'm on a wifi network outside of my house, does my Mac need to be turned on and not in sleep mode at home in order for this to work? Can the Elgato device be turned on while the computer is off? (I don't have one of these, but have been considering getting one).

I'm not sure of details about how this stuff works (though I do have the Elgato USB device) yet. But doubt this works if the Mac is off because the USB device requires a running OS for it to read data off the TV connection and process it.

I can say for sure the Elgato stuff is solid on my MBP and works well. Looking forward to seeing it serving as a proxy for my iPhone.

The accolades for its Chevy Volt, those accolades dont come cheap. The Chevy Volt reportedly cost a whooping $40,000 each to build, not including development costs.

That price makes the $41,000 MSRP seem downright reasonable. GM makes just $1,000 on each Volt sold. That isnt a lot, considering that GM can make upwards of $15,000 on the sale of an upscale Suburban such as the Cadillac Escalade or GMC Denali. On the same token, GM also lost around $1,000 on every Chevy Cavaleir they sold, and they sold a lot of those. GM will make about $1,000 on every Volt sold. At that rate, it will take GM a long, long time to recoup the $1 billion some-odd dollars they spent developing the Volt.

These revelations come from Steve Rattner, who in his book Overhaul walks us through the auto bailouts that dominated last year. While I am surprised that GM, one of the worlds largest automakers, couldnt build the Volt for cheaper, I guess it kind of justifies the Volts high cost. What say you though, in light of these revelations, is it really still worth the $41,000?link (http://gas2.org/2010/11/29/chevy-volt-cost-40000-to-build/)

They better had sell a lot of these.

What i find hilarious about people being afraid of the gvernment statement is that if the gov wants ur info, they will take it. Apple really isnt the people to be afraid of. If the gov wanted totrack you, bitch they will. They dont need phones to do it either. They will make a new day of the week just to make you gone.

The State department, FBI, NSA, CIA etc can track your through the central phone company with out a warrant in less then a few minutes, they even have private satellite channels, i just wanted to mention this becuase some use the police BS claiming that its good to find perpetrators using a iphone, no its not, to legally prosecute someone you need a warrant from the district attorneys office or hard evidence like a video to indict them.

Even cops use police jammers and dont need iphones, also they listen in on the phone lines before they actually respond to a call, these so called APPLE TECHS posting here to back up apple as the new big brother are clearly accomplices in what might be a cooperate espionage in my opinion, the only justification i can think of for Apple to of risked facing violations more serious then Google and Facebook which are (free services), we paid for these devices which is also a huge difference. , now everyone wants to know if these apps who collected emails and political views last year where apples own developers indulging on spying.
